1974, Italy. On the eve of her 21st birthday, Vera abandons everything: her family, her country, her certainties. She sets off for Nigeria, to the construction site of one of the world's largest dam, Bakolori. Her destiny becomes entwined with the story of this colossal undertaking and its fateful march through the Sahel.
