The diary of a friendship haunted by France's colonial past, between Rose, a black woman, and Matthieu Bareyre, a white man and director of the documentary.
Rose is 29 years old and has a plan: to leave France and ‘return to Africa’. When Matthieu Bareyre, one of her close friends, suggests making a film with her based on the diary she gave him to read, she sees it as the perfect opportunity to ‘exorcise some demons’, and so does he, even if he doesn't say so right away. As her happy memories rub shoulders with the murkiest black holes in her memory, Rose's unique voice shifts from confidence to rage, sometimes causing her friend to waver...
